Studio Shots and Work Spaces

144 images

My experience of the studio is not limited to a designated physical space. My ‘studio’ is wherever I happen to be. It also includes regular conversations with peers, researchers, and professionals with diverse forms of knowledge and expertise, such as curators, historians, architects, gardeners, and social workers, for example. In recent years, these encounters have led to the development of several team-based projects and creative collaborations. I see my artistic process - grounded in questions about the human condition, storytelling, and material experimentation - as reflecting the complex times in which we live.

This collection of studio images from the past three decades offers a glimpse into some of the experimental sculptural processes involved in the creation of my fictitious characters and their storied environments. I often combine materials that are not intended to be used together or incorporate objects that might be around me at any given moment, such as when I literally have something cooking on the stove. The informal and serendipitous nature of my studio practice allows for new lines of curiosity to take hold, and sometimes leads to entirely unexpected bodies of work.
